{"id":126,"date":"2019-10-31T21:08:15","date_gmt":"2019-10-31T20:08:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.forlex.it\/blog\/?p=126"},"modified":"2021-11-16T12:49:16","modified_gmt":"2021-11-16T11:49:16","slug":"vnc-access-to-esxi-guests-os","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.forlex.it\/index.php\/2019\/10\/31\/vnc-access-to-esxi-guests-os\/","title":{"rendered":"VNC access to ESXi Guests OS"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Following these steps we&#8217;ll be able to open the port 59<em>xx<\/em>&nbsp;on the ESXi firewall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this way we&#8217;ll can connect through VNC to a Guest OS :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Connect to the ESXi Server with vSphere client<\/li><li>Select&nbsp;<em>Configuration<\/em>&nbsp;tab, locate and open the&nbsp;<em>Software<\/em>&nbsp;list box, then select&nbsp;<em>Security Profile<\/em>.<\/li><li>In the Firewall section, select the&nbsp;<em>Properties<\/em>&nbsp;link to display the Firewall Properties dialog box.<\/li><li>In the dialog box, scroll to and select&nbsp;<em>GDB Serve<\/em>r, then click&nbsp;<em>OK<\/em>.<\/li><li>Your ESXi server now allows VNC access to Guest VM consoles through its firewall.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Now we can enable our Guest machine to be reached by VNC client.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Edit &lt;guestvm&gt;<em>.vmx<\/em> file (that file which define vm resources)<\/li><li>Add on bottom the following rules :<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>RemoteDisplay.vnc.enabled=&#8221;TRUE&#8221;<br>RemoteDisplay.vnc.port = &#8220;5901&#8221; (here you can define the port on which you want to connect the range is 5900 &#8211; 5999)<br>RemoteDisplay.vnc.password = &#8220;supersecretpassword&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also if we want to specify our keyboard map we can add :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>RemoteDisplay.vnc.keyMap = &#8220;xx&#8221; where xx is our language (eg: us or it or jp etc.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Boot the machine and try to connect to &lt;esxip&gt;:5901 and when requested try to put the choosen password.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bye<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Following these steps we&#8217;ll be able to open the port 59xx&nbsp;on the ESXi firewall.
